2 Fabulous Lakes in Singaraja You Should Visit

Singaraja used to be the capital city of Bali. Located in north Bali, this area is away from the more popular areas and a scenic three hours drive from the airport. If you visit this area, make sure to put these things to do in Northern Bali.

Singaraja also has a black sand beach and is the main town for the Lovina area. Though it is quite far from the more famous attractions, it doesn’t mean that there is no fun to be here.

You may know Lovina Beach, but Singaraja also has two famous lakes that are worth visiting. They are called Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan. You can also visit these lakes in Bali too! Let’s get to know better of these two fabulous lakes located in Singaraja.

  • Lake Buyan

Do you know that Lake Buyan is one of the four spectacular located in Bali. It offers natural view which can refresh your soul and mind. You can also spend a day or two camping trip here while you’re visiting Bali. Located in Buleleng Regency, visiting Lake Buyan will take around one and a half drive from the capital city of Bali, Denpasar.

Lake Buyan is located in the preserved rain forest. This allows the tourists to explore the remote side of Bali. Thousands of high trees grow and well-preserved by the local people.

For Balinese people, forests have been long served as sacred sites as many God’s creatures live there. No wonder, they respect them and preserve forest well as a part of their obligation of being Hindu Balinese.

Lake Buyan is more open for practical use. The waters are not sacred, so it can be used for fisheries and irrigation. There are some fishpond too in Lake Buyan. Because of being surrounded by green hills and untouched by any development, the hills here have been a great place for trekking and hiking.

Being the twin of Lake Buyan, Lake Tambingan is also worth visiting. It is located beside Lake Buyan with green hills surrounding it. This lake features magnificent view of the nature. It combines perfectly with the existence of traditional boats docking on the edge of the lake.

Lake Tamblingan is situated between the mountains of Munduk. Being untouched and managed well by the locals, the lake and the surrounding area will be perfect for you to stay away from the city crowd. The lake is also considered in a pristine condition because of the good care the locals give.

Lake Tamblingan has a unique name. There’s a story written in Lontar Kuntara Kanda Dewa Purana Bangsul who tells that “tamblingan” comes from two words: tamba means medicine and elingang means remember or spiritual powers.

To remind you, Lake Tamblingan is not developed to attract tourists. There are no resorts or hotels on the shores of the lakes, no motorboats to explore the lake and no restaurants around the lake.

While you’re here, make sure to take great photos at the temples and photogenic locations. There are several temples around which you can visit, namely Pura Dalem Tamblingan, Pura Gubug, Pura Loka Naga and others. These temples are really good and often used for prewedding photoshoots.

Besides these two lakes, there are some other tourist spots you can visit in Singaraja, such as watching dolphins in Lovina Beach, visiting Lin Gwang Kiong Temple, and many more.
