Karangasem is a regency in East Bali whose capital is Amlapura. The territory of Karangasem Regency was formerly the Kingdom of Karangasem founded in the 17th century. After the Dutch recognized the sovereignty of the Indonesian government, in 1950 the Kingdom of Karangasem merged with Indonesia and became Karangasem Regency.

Tirta Gangga Park was built by King of Karangasem, Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem, in 1946. The park, which has natural spring, was the place of the bathing of members of the royal family.
